A stroke patient who had been on the ward in 2008 yesterday contacted the Herald&Post to say police had informed him of Mr Mohabeer’s death.
He said: “I had the police here on Monday afternoon and they told me he had committed suicide the previous night. They said they wanted to tell me before it was on the news but they wouldn’t tell me anything else about what had happened.

“You go into hospital to be treated and to get better, not to be sexually assaulted.”
The Bedfordshire Police spokesman said no further details about Mr Mohabeer’s death could be given until a coroner’s inquest had been opened, which was expected to happen in the next few days.
She added: “Obviously we will continue to support victims and help them with any specialist support they need.”
