Lewis impresses for Luton AC

Luton AC athlete Jamal Lewis, 14, demonstrated his huge potential by finishing second for Bedfordshire at the Southern Inter Counties Championships at Clumber Park in Woodford Green.

On a wet two lap course, Jamie Dee of Shaftesbury Barnett AC hit the front early, but was closely tracked by George Elliott (Chelmsford) and Lewis.

After a cautious start, the Luton AC runner moved through the field and 800m from the end was third behind Elliott with Dee 20m clear.

A long downhill run to the finish, saw the leader overtaken by both athletes as Lewis came second, just three seconds behind Elliott.

Lewis will clearly be a major contender when rivalry between the three athletes resumes at the Southern Cross Country Championships in January and the Nationals in March.
