Lilly fundraiser went swimmingly

FRIENDS and family of Dunstable’s little Lilly MacGlashan enjoyed a deluge of public support on Sunday as they took the plunge for a sponsored swimathon.

Over 300 wellwishers flocked to Lewsey Farm pool to cheer on the 50 swimmers, who between them swam a staggering 80 miles to raise money for Lilly’s cancer treatment.

Organisers say they raised a splash-tastic £1600 through poolside donations, face painting and food sales – whilst an even bigger sum is expected once the swimmers collect money from their sponsors.

One of the selfless swimmers, Lilly’s big sister Danielle, told how the roar of the crowd helped keep her afloat during the six-hour swimathon.

She said: “The day was a fantastic success and I need to say a massive thank you to Gary Cook and all the team at Lewsey Farm pool, as well as all the kind souls who came to support us.

“Unfortunately Lilly’s immune system wasn’t strong enough for her to come and see all the crowd, but it’s the tireless help of the public that will help her to get better and one day make this possible.”

Hairdresser Danielle is now turning her attention to Sunday when she’ll be joined by colleagues to offer free gents haircuts at the Haversham salon she works at in Calverton Road, Limbury.
