Dunstable Colts under 8’s are a new team of six and seven year olds, they are hoping to raise £250 to hire the floodlit pitch at All Saints Academy during the winter.

Viki Kavangh, one of the team organisers, said: “Luke Sheppard set up the team and it has been a struggle with funding but we really want to make this work which is why we have decided to do this challenge to raise money.

“He has always said when our children are ready to play football themselves, he would give up playing and start his own team for them.

“He has done all the courses with the FA, the paediatric first aid and safeguarding and he goes to regular meetings so he can be the best coach that he can be for the kids.”

The players take on the challenge on Saturday, October 31, at Moore Crescent, they will have to run around the training ground six times.

Viki added: “They ran around it once to measure it and they were all knackered, so it will be a big challenge for them.

“Last week we found that after 6pm it is quite dark and the children could not see the ball, so it is essential that we can hire the pitch to continue training.

“We have the most fantastic support from the parents of our team, no matter what the score, the encouragement for the children is always shown, and each and every one of us is very proud of how far our players and Luke have come.”
