Luton gym suffers severe smoke damage after fire


A gym in Luton has suffered severe damage following a fire over the bank holiday weekend.

Beds Fire and Rescue Service received the call to Luton Community Gym at 23:03 on Saturday, May 2.

Once at the gym, located on Dunstable Road, firefighters found the ground floor of the building on fire. They requested a further appliance to fight the fire which came from Stopsley.

The fire was extinguished by 23:30.

The building suffered 20 per cent fire damage and 100 per cent smoke damage to the ground floor. Firefighters cleared smoke from the building and crews stayed until 2am, damping down the fire and clearing debris.

A fire investigation found that it was caused accidently.
