Luton man and woman in court for people smuggling

A man and woman from Luton are due to appear in court today charged with smuggling illegal immigrants into the UK.

Eduart Lleshi, 32, Curzon Road and Katarzyna Kopec, 35, of Tythe Road, are charged with conspiring to facilitate illegal and unlawful entry of non-EU citizens into the UK.

They are charged alongside three others – Erion Sherrniku, 20, of Union Road, Northolt, Middlesex, Zbigneiw Czerwiak, 41, of Balmoral Road, Houghton Regis, and Piotr Baczkowski, 37, of Balmoral Road, Houghton Regis

The charges follow an investigation by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU). A total of 16 Albanian nationals were detained and deported as part of the investigation.

The five will appear at Stevenage Magistrates’ Court.
