It’s being hosted by volunteers from a variety of organisations including Asda, Age Concern Luton, Luton Air Cadets and Luton & Dunstable Hospital Radio.

Guests will be ferried to and from the event by volunteer drivers who will see them safely home afterwards. A delicious tea – courtesy of Asda – will be served by the cadets, with hospital radio volunteers providing music for this right royal occasion.

Age Concern Luton chief executive Colette McKeaveney said: “The Queen’s birthday is very important to older people, some of whom sadly no longer have someone to celebrate with.

“Many admire and love the monarch and see her as a contemporary, one who’s seen many of the personal challenges they themselves have endured.

“But they recall the good times too – ‘feel good’ eras like the end of the war and the Silver Jubilee.”

Age Concern Luton was approached by Asda community champion Amanda Burnham as Luton Air Cadets were keen to hold a party for the pensioners.

Colette explained: “We thought it sounded like a lot of fun and it snowballed from there to include a range of organisations. It’s great to have so many people pulling together to make a truly memorable day.”
