Luton signs up for the White Ribbon pledge

Last year the council, led by portfolio holder for domestic abuse, Cllr Naseem Ayub, made a commitment to work to end all violence.

He said: “Millions of women experience rape, domestic violence, forced marriages, female genital mutilation, honour crimes and sexual exploitation and trafficking.

“We are proud that Luton is commited to ending this and we are working to alter attitudes and how peple think about violence.

“We work with schools and young people on educational programmes to ensure intervention and prevention from an early age.”

The Mayor, Cllr Dave Taylor, and members of local organisations who have signed the pledge were thanked for their commitment and support and presented with certificates by the first UK White Ribbon ambassador, Ikram Butt. Visit www.whiteribboncampaign.co.uk
