Magic carpets at cast olympics

Panto stars taking part in Aladdin at Dunstable's Grove Theatre : Kieran Sutcliffe (Britains Got Talent), Brian Capron (Coronation Street), Ed Petrie (CBBC), Sarah Jameson (Britains Got Talent).

On Thursday (June 9) theatre staff are putting on a mini olympics with stars from this year’s panto, Aladdin, competing against teams from local businesses.

There’ll be a number of Aladdin-themed events including the Arabian Market Sweep, the Princess Jasmine Etiquette Relay, Genie Dress Up, Magic Carpet Toss and Widow Twankey’s Washing Line.

There will also be a panto record breaking attempt inspired by Guinness World Records.

Grove spokeswoman Hannah Delaney said: “One or two cast members will take part by eating as many mince pies in a minute as possible.

“The current record stands at 54 so game on, we say.”

She added: “Dunstable’s Cake House has very kindly offered to bake us a fresh batch and we’re going to create an annual record book of our own.”

The event starts at 11am and weather permitting, will be held in Grove Park.
