Man dies in Kensworth flat fire

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call about a fire in a flat in Ridgeway, Kensworth, south of Dunstable at 7.59am this morning.

Two fire engines from Dunstable Community Fire Station were sent to the scene and when they arrived ten minutes later they called for support from their nearby colleagues from Markyate, Hertfordshire.

Firefighters fought the fire in the flat wearing breathing apparatus to protect themselves from smoke and fumes and using a fire hose and covering jet. The fire was extinguished by 8.45am.

Firefighters are still on the scene clearing smoke from the property.

A fire investigation into the cause will be carried out this morning.
