Firefighters rescued a man from a burning flat on Sunday evening.
The fire at a ground floor flat in Collingdon Street, Luton was discovered around 5.56on on Sunday.
When firefighters arrived there were told a person was reported missing.
In all three fire engines and crews, two from Luton and one from Stopsley Fire Stations, fought the fire wearing breathing apparatus to protect themselves while using two fire hoses to extinguish the blaze, which was out by 18.20.
They rescued one man from the property who was treated for smoke inhalation and burns by paramedics before being taken to hospital. Three other people were also lead to safety by Firefighters. A fire investigation is underway but the cause is thought to be accidental.
