Trevor Holden, 53, has set himself two goals, to complete the course in under three and a half hours and to raise £10,000 for the charity.

He said: “I was flattered and highly motivated when asked to represent LAMP in this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon.

“Having such a strong local charity here in the town makes a real difference to many people’s lives.”

The charity supports young vulnerable and disadvantaged people aged 16 to 25, who find themselves homeless through no fault of their own.

John Archer, LAMP chief executive, said: “All offers of support will be much appreciated and will give our single young homeless people a future and help them to realise their potential.”
