Men jailed for weapons haul

TWO men who tried to smuggle a swordstick, knives, knuckle dusters and extendable batons into the UK via Luton Airport have been jailed.

Daniel Oldacre, 23, and Daniel Osmond, 22, both from Coventry, were arrested by UK Border Agency officers at the airport after they stepped off a flight from Bulgaria on May 29.

During a search of Oldacre’s suitcase, officers found four knuckledusters, a swordstick with a 15-inch blade and two extendable batons.

Osmond was found to be carrying five knuckledusters, a butterfly knife and a flick knife hidden in a toiletries bag.

Both men claimed they had bought the items in Bulgaria as souvenirs and wished to use them in their martial arts training.

They both pleaded guilty to attempting to import prohibited and restricted weapons, and on Friday were both sentenced to 12 months in prison.
