MP defends ‘posh boys’ comments

NADINE Dorries has defended her claims that the Prime Minister and Chancellor are “arrogant posh boys”.

The Mid Beds MP, whose constituency includes Toddington and Harlington, appeared on the BBC’s Daily Politics shown on Monday (April 23) where she said David Cameron and George Osborne had “no passion to want to understand the lives of others.”

The outspoken MP immediately hit the headlines, and quickly became one of the most talked-about topics on Twitter.

Speaking after the show she said her comments were directed at the “Downing Street operation”, and she was still a proud Conservative.

Ms Dorries, whose constituency could disappear under proposed boundary changes, said: “My comments were about the Downing Street operation and leadership, and they were no way a reflection on politicians, local councils, and councillors.

“Local Conservative councils are the best in the UK because they are run by local councillors who are rooted in the local community. My comments were in no way a reflection of Conservatism they were directly aimed at number 10.”

The Tory MP made a similar remark earlier this year when she told a national newspaper the government was “being run by two public school boys who don’t know what it’s like to go to the supermarket and have to put things back on the shelves because they can’t afford it for their children’s lunch boxes.”

Ms Dorries has not always been a supporter of Mr Cameron and initially backed David Davis in the 2005 Conservative leadership race.

She has also previously clashed with the Prime Minister. During a parliamentary debate last year he called her “extremely frustrated”, a remark which he later apologised for.
