New Chief Constable gets a warm welcome

BEDFORDSHIRE’S new Chief Constable, Alf Hitchcock, started work last week – and acknowledged there were difficult times ahead for the force.

But he said he was positive about the future of policing in Bedfordshire, telling the Police Oracle website: “There are some really difficult challenges to be tackled in the coming years. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to address these with a force that is so forward thinking and positive about the future.”

Mr Hitchcock, who was previously deputy chief constable at the National College of Police Leadership, was officially welcomed to the county by the Bedfordshire Police Authority in an attestation ceremony.

Authority chairman Peter Conniff said: “I look forward to working with the new Chief whose wide ranging experience will help us meet the challenges we face.”
