The Luton News reported that private Albert John Clarke, son of Mrs R Clarke of Queens Street, Luton, was recovering in a Birmingham hospital from wounds received during the battle on Mons.
Caddington harvest festival at Caddington Parish Church was still a bright and breezy event, the paper said. Out of sympathy to the Belgian people who are unable to gather their own harvest, there were no floral displays.
The condition of territorial soldiers, especially those billeted in Dunstable was the discussion of Luton Board of Guardians at their latest meeting.

Hide AdSoldiers had been cleaned and fumigated at the Union House the Guardians were told.
They criticised the officers who then sent the men back to the billets which had caused the problems in the first place.
The Mayor of Luton said it would be a good thing if the men had a bath and a clean shirt once a week.
