A new Luton Town ground is built... from Lego!

If you're a Luton Town fan then at the moment you're getting very excited about a stadium being built in the near future.

There’s been many a false dawn over the decades, but this time with the planning application for Power Court being submitted to the council in the last few days it looks like the club’s dream could become a reality.

If it all goes to plan then the new ground could be constructed by the start of the 2020/21 season.

But someone who is also really keen on building Luton Town stadiums much faster than that is Jules Richards.

He’s been constructing Kenilworth Road, and a few other English grounds, out of Lego and selling them for around £135 a pop. See the photos and you’ll see what a great job he’s done – there’s even the SKF clock and the Oak Road houses featured in the build.

Father-of-three Jules is originally from Cardiff, but lives in Luton’s Poynters Road now and is a department manager at Sainsbury’s in Bury Park. He said: “I have always liked Lego from a young age and it was just gathering dust in the loft. I built a Cardiff City stadium last year in February on a wet windy day off with Lego from round the house.

“I put it on twitter and a lot of people liked it. I then started building some for fun, posting them on twitter and then seeing what people’s reactions were. In November I was asked to build a Sheffield Wednesday one and it went from there.”

The 43-year-old has been selling stadiums since Christmas and has now sold about 20, including Luton, Cardiff, West Ham, Norwich, Barnsley (7 of them), and Charlton.

He said: “I source the bricks from a website where people just sell lego. There are about 900 pieces in the Luton one, most features are in it especially the exterior of the ground which I think makes them more realistic.”

If you’re thinking of ordering a stadium, then don’t drop it once it’s received... as the grounds come pre-built and without instructions.

He said: “I posted a Hillsborough once and it broke into bits so I drove to Nottingham and fixed it for the guy it was for. I don’t glue them, I have been asked to but can’t source the glue.

“I deliver them usually. I had a trip up north recently when I delivered two Oldhams and four Barnsleys.”
