Our schools are best in country

Thanks to excellent Key Stage 1 exam results, lower schools and primary schools in Central Beds are among the best in the country.

The results published last week show that Central Beds’ seven-year-olds have put the area in the top ten local authorities in the country for reading and writing – and in the top 25 for maths and science.

The news comes just days after Central Beds’ middle schools posted their best-ever Key Stage 2 results.

The number of year six pupils achieving at least level four in maths and English increased by a massive 10 per cent.

Those getting a level five or above increased by 10 per cent for maths and 14 per cent in English, as around 94 per cent of schools in Central Beds saw improvements.

Councillor Mark Versallion said: “These are excellent results and reflect the hard work of our pupils, their teachers and families.

“I am extremely proud of and happy for everyone involved. It’s fantastic to see that our children are getting off to a great start in life and I am confident that this high level of achievement will continue as they make their journey through the education system and beyond.”
