Pack your trunk and head to zoo

A host of colourful elephants are helping trumpet Whipsnade Zoo’s ‘Elephantasia’ event, which takes place this weekend.

The animals were created by fashion, art and graphics students at Central Bedfordshire College, and were delivered to Bury Park yesterday to promote the zoo’s weekend of elephant appreciation.

The Elephantasia weekend will be raising be raising vital funds for the zoo’s worldwide elephant conservation and research projects, and will see a host of fun activities taking place across the two days.

There will be Asian music and dance performances, and children’s workshops including mask-making, shadow puppets and chilli pot planting.

Visitors who make a donation on the day to elephant conservation and research projects can also have the chance to go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the elephant barn or meet one of the elephants and have their picture taken with them.

For Bedfordshire residents the zoo is offering 25 per cent on tickets booked online – use the promotional code ‘ELEPHANT’ when booking.

The eye-catching decorated elephants are the result of a partnership between the zoo, the Luton Bury Park Business Community (LBBC) and Experience Bedfordshire.

After their stay in Bury Park, the elephants will move onto Stockwood Park and then to Wardown Park.

Central Bedfordshire College assistant principal, Shahin Khan, said, “This is a fantastic initiative for the community and the college is proud to be a key part of it.”
