Paralympic thrill for shop workers

There was plenty of excitement in store when workers from Luton’s Dunstable Road branch of Sainsbury’s enjoyed a Paralympic treat.

Claire McInally, Bob Chandler, Pat McCarney and Dan Richards attended the Olympic Park – along with 5,000 other Sainsbury’s colleagues across the country – after being successfully nominated for the treat.

Store manager Mark Collins said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for my colleagues and they all really deserved it. Across Luton many of our colleagues have helped to raise the profile of the Paralympic Games. Claire has been a fantastic support in driving the Paralympic message in the community.”

Claire added: “I was really honoured to have been chosen from so many entries. I’ve really enjoyed helping local people to understand more about the Paralympic Games and the day was a great opportunity to meet other colleagues from across the country.

“We had an absolutely amazing day, it was very inspirational and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We had the chance to watch China v Denmark in goal ball, women’s wheelchair basketball with Mexico v Germany and seven-a-side football with Argentina v Iran.”

Sainsbury’s is one of the main sponsors of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which ended on Sunday.
