The road was closed at the junction of New Bedford Road during the February half term and Easter Break to make the improvements. The road layout has been narrowed, there are designated parking spaces, new paving, upgraded street lights, greater pedestrian space, new street furniture and the carriageway has been resurfaced.

Business owner Terry Webb has been on Riddy Lane since 1978, he said: “I’ve been on this parade of shops for nearly 40 years - I’m so pleased to see such a scheme come to fruition. I hope the improvements encourage more residents to visit us and make use of the renovated area.”

Cllr Paul Castleman said: “Schemes like Riddy Lane play a vital role in attracting investments in Luton while supporting the local pound.

“This scheme will contribute to the long-term future economic success for the town. As with all road schemes, Safer Routes to School has also been taken into consideration.”
