Peace and Richard give blood for Sickle Cell Anemia awareness

A charity campaigner donated blood for the first time during a blood drive she organised in Luton last week – and I went along to help.

Peace Adetoro practiced what she preaches as she bravely gave a pint of red stuff during her Sickle Cell Awareness blood drive on Wednesday June 19.

Peace wants more people to be aware of Sickle Cell Anemia, give blood, and banish the ‘stigma’ attached to the condition.

Sickle Cell Anemia is an inherited blood disease, predominantly found in black, Asian and hispanic bloodlines and it drastically shortens life expectancy due to heart and blood complications.

After giving blood, Peace said: “It was a wonderful experience. The needle going in did hurt, but after that there was no pain whatsoever.

“If people are worried about giving blood the shouldn’t be.

“I just want to thank all the staff at Luton Donor Centre – they do an amazing job.”

Peace will also be doing a skydive on June 30, to raise funds. To donate visit www.gofundme.com/348q6o.
