A love letter to Luton - band pens special song celebrating their hometown

A band from Luton has penned a song celebrating its hometown, with the track serving as a “musical defence to the haters”.

Missing The Ferry is a second-generation Irish band, made up of three brothers:

Paul, Kevin and Chris Anderson, along with their best friends: Kevin Cunningham and Richard Herity.

For this new song, they have celebrated all things Luton to “show the doubters that Luton is actually an alright place”.

Paul, founding member and mandolinist, said: “We've been holding on to this tune for a while now. It was written in minutes on a train to a gig in Northampton.

"We were tired of defending it whenever we played gigs out of town.”

The band said it will admit that Luton is far from perfect with its challenges, but has used this track to highlight the town’s cultural riches.

The song, Luton You’re a Lady, is being released on Valentine’s Day – appropriate given that it’s a love letter to the town.

It will be available on all digital platforms and on Bandcamp, thanks to a collaboration with Luton record label Vandalism Begins At Home.

Paul added: “Nobody can deny that Lutonians are some of the best people in the world, and when they're needed, they step up! We are proud to be a Luton-Irish band, and we hope our song celebrates all the great cultures and other things this town has to offer.”

And more Luton talent is behind the music video for the song, with Two Sides Studios and Alleged Productions working to bring the song to life visually.

The video will premiere on February 15 at The Four Horseshoes pub.

Jasbir Nangla, from Two Sides Studios, said: “The track developed and changed as time went on, and the version we have today is certainly the best it could be.

“ I have to mention Kelli Watson of Alleged Productions, who’s been so instrumental in bringing this absolute classic to life!

“We can't wait for everyone in Luton and beyond to see this masterpiece, and we can't wait to see what else is in store for Missing the Ferry.”

> The Government has launched a bid to find the UK’s Town of Culture – with a £3million prize up for grabs for the winner.

The aim of the campaign is to bring in local investment and create a lasting sense of pride in towns, as well as opening doors to the arts for everyone.

We have so much to shout about on our doorstep, and this is a great opportunity to champion what makes our local community special and celebrate local people.

Winning the £3million would be brilliant, but just taking part in the contest, putting our town in the spotlight and showing the rest of the country what we have to offer is a prize in itself.

Here at the Luton News we believe this is a great opportunity to put our town on the national stage.

Let us know why you love our town so much, what makes it special – we want to hear your suggestions for what we should be shouting about.

You can send us your thoughts and ideas at [email protected]

Let’s let the whole country know why we really are the UK’s Town of Culture.
