Deputy Lieutenant's coffee morning raises cash for Dunstable children's charity

A generous £275 was raised for a Dunstable children’s charity at a coffee morning and raffle held in Lilley.

It was organised in aid of Kids in Action by Bedfordshire Deputy Lieutenant Vinod Tailor – a former High Sheriff – and his wife Jaimani, who moved to the village just over a year ago.

Vinod, who has been a Deputy Lieutenant for more than 20 years, said: “Kids in Action provides a safe space where not only children but also parents and carers can come and enjoy being themselves.”

The charity was started in 1995 by Paul Bowen-James BEM, who wanted to recreate the joy of the old fashioned youth clubs he remembered from his youth but for children with special needs – and their siblings too.

What began as a single weekly session has grown into a life-changing community.

A Kids in Action spokesperson said: “We’ve created a safe, welcoming space where children and young adults with disabilities and special needs can just be themselves. A space filled with laughter, friendship, and opportunity—where confidence flourishes and happiness grows.

“And we’re here for families, too. Whether you’re looking for a friendly support network or simply a little breathing space, you’ll find a vibrant community of people who understand what you’re going through.”

Deputy CEO Tracey Hammond added: "We send our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Vinod who has supported and helped our charity for many years now.

“The money that has been raised at his recent coffee morning will go directly to running our services to our members.”
