The 22-year-old right-back started his career with the youth wing of LTFC aged just eight, and made his professional debut at 16 against Cambridge in the FA Trophy in the 2013/14 season

Trotman then joined Nuneaton while studying a degree at the University of Loughborough, before signing with Darlington in September 2017.

Now, Trotman is setting his sights on reality television stardom through ITV's hit show.

His Twitter feed stated: "Our boy Luke is in the villa We can’t wait for all your reactions!

"Make sure you tune into ITV2 at 9pm [Thursday] night for his bombshell arrival."

Trotman was named Darlington's player of the season in 2018-19, but was sidelined for the rest of this season due to an Achilles tendon injury.

Luckily, he has the full backing and support of his club to appear on 'Love Island' while out of action.

A Darlington FC spokesman said: "The possibility of Luke appearing on Love Island was discussed by Luke and club representatives, and he is doing rehab on the island under physio instruction. He has also had a gym access and a programme to continue rehab.

"We would like to wish Luke the best of luck in his adventure."
