Former Luton teacher publishes book of short poems

Tim Hopkins, the brother of former Luton North MP Kelvin Hopkins, created the book, Epitaph for an Auctioneer and Other Epigrams, because he wanted to do something different, to go against the fashion.
He said: "I have always been interested in poetry and humour, and in this book they are combined.

Hide Ad"There have always been fashions in poetry, and the current fashion is for free verse.
"The leading poetry magazine, Poetry Review, features no rhymed verse.
"My set of epigrams goes against fashion.
"It is difficult, if not impossible to write comic, effective, light verse without rhyme and structure."
The former Icknield Primary School teacher has had poems published for children and adults in national newspapers, magazines and anthologies, but Epitaph is the first book of solely his work.

Hide AdHe had two novels with a football theme for teenagers published as part of a reading scheme for improving reading in secondary schools.
Tim now hopes to find a publisher for his manuscript of children's poems.
