There's no obstacle to having fun at Luton' s Wardown Park following the opening of a new crazy golf course. And locals are going wild with excitement as they explore the wildlife-themed 18-hole facility which launched on Saturday, May 1 and has been proving popular. Chris Aubrey, 27, has set up the attraction with friend Jack Robinson, who he attended golf college with, after scouring the region for a suitable site. Their company RA Golf Ltd came to an agreement with Luton Borough Council to utilise the disused smaller bowling green - and the pair are delighted with the end result. Chris said: "We looked at different locations where we could set one up where we knew it would appeal. We got an agreement with the council for the bowling green that hasn't been used for a few years." The duo came up with the obstacle designs themselves utilising their past experience of crazy golf courses. Chris warned the public to watch out for the ants hill where the mound proves challenging for those hoping to sink a putt, while he says the loop de loop is another course highlight. He said: "It's just a fun activity we liked ourselves and it appeals to all ages. I worked at a golf club where they had one. Crazy golf is a good way for kids to get into golf. The wildlife theme fits in with the surroundings quite nicely. The council didn't want pirates on what is a heritage site." Wardown has previously housed a putting course as well as crazy golf, although they closed a number of years ago. Chris said: "People who have been coming have been telling us they missed playing the old ones. It's been really busy, we were fully booked on the first Sunday from 10am to 5pm." The public is encouraging to book in advance via www.wardownadventuregolf.co.uk although it is not essential. Groups are spaced five minutes apart to aid social distancing, clubs/balls are disinfected in between each use, with sanitiser provided for customers. The course is open Monday to Friday 11am to 6pm, weekends and bank holidays 10am to 6pm (last entry an hour before closing time). Have you tried it out yet?
