Luton nursery gets creative with eco-inspired baking

The pre-schoolers have been working alongside nursery chef, Sue Thackham to make insects from fondant, motivated by the topic of biodiversity and the creatures they have seen in the garden and bug hotel.

The Day Nursery, on Lewsey Road, have taken inspiration for their designs from their ‘Eco-Schools’ curriculum, which is operated by ‘Keep Britain Tidy’, the aim is to promote behaviour and initiatives that will have a positive impact on the planet.

This includes learning about biodiversity, litter and transport.

Seabrook Day Nursery team leader, Gemma Bell said: “The children have a great deal of care and respect for the environment which is lovely to see, and they have really enjoyed making their cakes in relation to this.

"We are really excited to explore more ways in which we can learn about these important topics going forward.”

Seabrook Day Nursery holds a ‘Green Flag’ award as part of the internationally recognised Eco-Schools scheme, the accolade is the highest achievement in the programme and is awarded for exceptional environmental awareness and conservation efforts.
