Pupils from a school in Luton have been playing their part in helping to keep their town clean.

On Sunday, September 27, the RotaKids - a junior version of the Rotary Club - from Chantry Primary Academy teamed up with their counterparts from the Luton Rotary Club to carry out a litter pick at Lewsey Park.

The children collected over 20 full bags of rubbish from the park, making the area cleaner, safer and more appealing for the local community.

Twenty-four people took part, making their way round the park in groups of 6 - due to current restrictions - and the children in particular, were commended on their teamwork, friendliness and dedication to improving the local environment.

Jamie Kelly, deputy headteacher, said: “It was wonderful to see that our pupils were so committed to serving their community that they gave up their Sunday to take part in the litter pick.

"They had great fun doing so, competing against each other to see who could collect the most bags of rubbish!

"It was great for our RotaKids to meet their Rotary Club friends too and hopefully, this event will be the start of a long partnership that serves both our local and national communities!”
