Kind-hearted businesswoman Kuljit Lally, who founded Aristone Solicitors in 2018, created a YouTube video during lockdown to encourage those suffering in silence to speak out.

Indeed, Ms Lally and her team are offering initial legal representation for victims of domestic abuse on a pro-bono [no charge] basis, to aid the most vulnerable.

Director and child and family solicitor Ms Lally said: “I want to help domestic abuse victims because I know individuals suffering from any form of abuse are unable to protect themselves or reach out for help because they are afraid of the authorities getting involved and jeopardising their family dynamic.

“Thus, they feel torn and helpless and, as a result, depressed, resulting in self-harm or even suicide.

“I am often noted to say to my clients that: ‘It’s no longer your problem, it’s mine’ to help remove the heavy burden they are carrying.”

Ms Lally completed her training contract in Bradford in 2004. She later worked as the managing head of the family law department at Adams Moore in Luton.

Her awards include: Winner of Rising Star’s employee of the year 2011; winner of ‘Embracing Change’ from the Minority Lawyers Group 2011; finalist for the Family Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year 2011; outstanding contribution to a Community Project – Safer Luton Partnership 2010.

Recalling her first ever case, Ms Lally added: “During proceedings a police officer gave evidence of a serious sexual assault upon the client of which I had no knowledge.

“I immediately stopped the court hearing to speak with my client. I asked her why she had not previously informed me, to which she responded: ‘Would you tell somebody something so embarrassing?’

“I was horrified and realised at that point that my expertise would need to be in this particular field to ensure that I offered a service whereby my clients would understand that they could disclose anything to me and I would not judge them and would approach them with nothing but empathy.”
