Race at our place
Pupils from Ferrars Junior School are getting ready to take place in Race at our Place in honour of a teaching assistant who lost her battle with cancer in 2013.
The school holds the event every year in aid of Cancer Research and this year they are inviting the community to take part too.
Mother-of-two Carol Julian, 53, worked at the school for 15 years and always took part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
This year’s event is on Friday, July 8, from 9am till 4pm at the Junior School on Lewsey Road.
Event organiser Fiona Vinall said: “Race at our Place is a very important event that we will be running for the fourth time this year.
“It is a time when our school remembers a well loved member of staff and friend of many, who lost her battle with cancer.
“It also gives us a chance to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
“Our children pay money and then come out one year group at a time to enjoy a fun warm up followed by a run, walk or skip around a large pink ribbon heart on the field.
“Last year we raised £2026.04, we are hoping to beat that this year.
“We would like to encourage people from the local community to come and take part, they can pop in anytime.
“A voluntary donation and a walk around the field will earn them a lovely medal.”
After completing their laps the children are presented with a medal and can take part in the different games available.
There will be a toy stall, a tombola, a hook a duck and a disk drop game.
Headteacher Cristelle Sharpley-Ellis said: “This event is in memory of a dear friend and colleague who lost her battle with cancer in February 2013.
“We host this amazing event in aid of Cancer Research UK, a charity that is dedicated to raising money to fund research.”
