Graduates of Gavin Shuker MP’s summer school enjoyed a fantastic send-off at Luton Hoo Hotel on Friday.
To mark the end of the four week programme, the 26 students hosted presentations showing what they had achieved working with three local charities.
Volunteers and staff from Victim Support, MS Society Luton & Dunstable Branch and Luton Foodbank joined the students and their parents to enjoy the day at the beautiful hotel.
Mr Shuker said “This year has been our biggest summer school and it has been an absolute joy to watch them learn and grow over the past four weeks. For me, it is important for young people in politics to learn we are here to serve and give back to our community and that is exactly what these fantastic young people have done. My team and I are extremely proud of them all and are already looking forward to what next year has in store for Luton.”
Thanks to the group’s food drive at Asda, the Food Bank received an extra 9000 items, and the local MS branch said their members were boosted by the enthusiasm of the team working with them.
Victim Support welcomed a number of recommendations made by the youngsters to better engage with young Asians who fall victim to crime.
