Tesco fun day helps Tony’s angel campaign

Staff from the Dunstable store read Tony’s story and wanted to help him reach his target.

Tony Jules, 63, from Sundon Park, has terminal prostate cancer, he decided to dedicate the remainder of his time to raise £40,000 to cover the cost of a Keech Hospice nurse for a year.

The store organised an angel themed fun day to raise funds for Tony’s campaign.

Karen Linley, Tesco’s area community champion, said: “When we read about the campaign we wanted to support his cause. Tony has been supporting our community for many years and we felt it was now time for the community to support his campaign.

“On our angel themed fun day we had different fundraising activities and our staff wore wings to work, everybody loved it and had a great day.

“We also had a group of young people from Luton, who are part of the National Citizen Service programme, packing bags to raise funds for Keech.

There was an information stall for customers to learn more about Tony’s campaign.

Banita Mistry, regional fundraiser for Keech, said: “Thank you to everyone at Tesco for supporting Keech Hospice Care and fundraising a grand total of £1050 for the Pay For An Angel campaign.

“The staff had so many utterly brilliant fundraising ideas and have raised a huge amount of money. Many people are surprised to hear that we are a charity and rely on the public for 70% of our income.

“Thanks to the support from Tesco we can continue to provide the services we do here at Keech Hospice Care and make a real difference to the patients and families that use them.
