Traditional fair fun for villagers young and old

VILLAGERS in Caddington went animal crackers when all creatures great and small took part in the annual village show.

Bearded dragon lizards, chinchillas and a skunk were among the more unusual visitors to the event last weekend, and came courtesy of the Petwise Mobile Zoo.

Canine residents also got their moment in the spotlight, with a dog show run by Smart Houndz grooming.

Proud winner of the best in show title was Bonnie the springer spaniel, owned by Carol Jones, and there was even a fancy dress section.

The show, now in its 11th year, was held at Heathfield School. Other attractions included performances by the Caddington Blues morris dancers, who opened the event, a clown, a hog roast, a Pimms tent, a bucking bronco and a craft fair.

Villagers old and young also competed for prizes in everything from cakes and crafts to photography and horticulture.

Organisers Christiane Astridge, Sarah McCaughey, Sally Ryan and Louise Treleaven all agreed the day had been another great success, thanks to all the wonderful volunteers and local support.

Sally Ryan, who organised the show with Christian Astridge, Sarah McCaughey and Louise Treleaven, said: “It was a lovely day, full of smiling faces.

“It was a traditional village fair, with things like prizes for the longest runner bean, and the dog show was absolutely brilliant.”
