Your chance to help out at one of Luton’s biggest-ever celebrations for borough’s 150th anniversary
People across Luton are being asked to be part of one of the town’s biggest celebrations and help out at a huge two-day festival in Stockwood Park.
To mark the 150 years of Luton becoming its own borough, Luton Rising is putting on ‘Party in the Park’ and ‘Proms in the Park’.

Kaiser Chiefs have already been announced as the headliners for the event on September 12, and the classical music on September 13, with thousands expected to come to the town.
The council is calling on residents to become Luton Rising Festival Makers, and volunteer by welcoming visitors, supporting activities and making sure the events run smoothly.
There are different volunteer roles are available, including event stewards and marshals, welcome and information volunteers, wayfinding and activity support, and accessibility support roles.
No previous experience is needed, and all volunteers will receive training and briefings before heading out.
As a thank you, volunteers will get free tickets to the event.
More than 280 volunteers were on hand to help visitors throughout BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2024.
Councillor Basit Mahmood, portfolio holder for inclusive growth and town centre regeneration, said: “As we celebrate Luton’s 150th anniversary, we’re looking for another team of enthusiastic volunteers to help create a welcoming atmosphere, support visitors and play an important role in this historic celebration. Becoming a Festival Maker is a chance to gain new skills, meet new people and be part of an unforgettable moment in our town’s history.”
Councillor Javeria Hussain, vice-chair of Luton Rising, said: “We saw first-hand at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2024 how our Luton Rising Festival Makers helped create an outstanding experience for visitors and became fantastic ambassadors for our town. More than 280 volunteers played a vital role in welcoming festival-goers to Luton, and the feedback we received highlighted the pride they felt in showcasing the town in a positive light. The warmth, enthusiasm and community spirit they brought helped make the event such a success.”
Training sessions will be held during August and early September ahead of the events.
Anyone interested in becoming a Luton Rising Festival Maker can register their interest via the Step Forward Luton website.
