Pipers aim to be world class
After finishing a disappointing ninth in their category last year, they’re determined to up the ante this year,
But pipe major Ant Docherty, 37, acknowledges it’s going to be a tough challenge competing against hundreds of bands in front of an audience of tens of thousands.

Hide AdThe 50-strong band, which features some girl pipers and drummers, has a good track record – they won Grade 4B in 2007 and All England Champions, Grade 1, in 2008. And they’ve set their sights on another trophy.
Ian Embelton of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association said: “The Worlds is an iconic event and a must on any traditional music fan’s calendar.
“As well as being the pinnacle of competitions for the creme de la creme of pipe bands from as far and wide as Australia and Aberdeen, The Worlds is also an unmissable family day out. We have Highland dancing and Highland games in addition to a massive kid’s zone.”
The World Pipe Band Championships will take place at Glasgow Green on Saturday, August 13.
