Policeman takes the plunge to help Lilly

THE family of our little fighter Lilly MacGlashan have admitted they are going through a worrying time as the tiny tot faces radiation therapy.

Lilly, of Lowther Road, Dunstable, suffers with childhood cancer neuroblastoma and is currently in New York for pioneering drug treatment.

Since January, well-wishers have donated more than £200,000 to pay for the life-saving procedure and money is still rolling in to the Help Lilly Appeal. On Monday, her family wrote on social networking site Facebook: “Lilly is doing exceptionally well with the treatment that she has already received.

“Last week the doctors decided that the best way forward for Lilly is to have radiation therapy to her craniospinal region. They said that they are doing it for Lilly, as she has come so far. It is very worrying for all of us as she is so young.”

The MacGlashans need £300,000 in total to cover the therapy and kind-hearted donators are still holding events to held them reach the target.

PC Dave Johnson, a firearms officer for Bedfordshire Police, will do a bungee jump to raise cash for the Help Lilly Appeal on Saturday at Wyboston Lakes.

The 31-year-old found out about Lilly’s plight through the tiny tot’s auntie Samantha Banks, who also works for the force.

Dave said: “I’ve got personal experiences of cancer. My mum died when she was 43 and I was 13 so anything to do with cancer is personal to me. My dad has also suffered with it for 20-odd years too and is still suffering.

“When it was mentioned that a little girl was born with cancer and they are trying to raise money to get her lifesaving treatment, I jumped at the chance to help.

“I’m hoping to raise as much money as I possibly can. I’m a little bit nervous though, it is starting to dawn on me now.”

A rock and roll show is also being held next month in aid of Lilly.
