Families were invited to Market Hill on Saturday (April 25) to see Luton as it might have looked in 1876.
Children enjoyed free Victorian-themed activities like funfair games, costume dress, street performers and live music.
There was also a 12ft interactive dragon that blew bubbles and played medieval music.
Images from Victorian Luton were on display to show what life was like in the town 150 years ago.
Councillor James Taylor, portfolio holder for regeneration and inclusive growth at Luton Council, said: "It was great to see hundreds of families from across Luton and the surrounding areas taking part in the free St George's Day festivities over the weekend.
"This was the first of our main events programme to be boosted for the Luton 150 celebrations, and it was fantastic to see so many residents keen to find out more about what we have planned for the rest of this anniversary year."
Councillor Javeria Hussain, vice chair of Luton Rising, added: "Luton Rising was delighted to sponsor Luton's St George's Day celebrations once again. It was a fun event that brought people together from across the town to celebrate local heritage and the pride we all share in Luton. We're very excited to be sponsoring several of the upcoming events this year to celebrate Luton 150."
