New repair provider for social housing

SOCIAL housing tenants in Dunstable, Toddington and Houghton Regis now have a new service provider for repairs and maintenance.

Central Bedfordshire Council has awarded a temporary contract to Mears until August 2012, when a permanent contractor will be appointed.

Mears took over from Enterprise on Monday, November 7. Services will include voids, response repairs, aids and adaptations to the council’s 5,500 housing stock.

Councillor Carole Hegley, responsible for social care, health and housing at the council, said: “We are determined to make sure that our tenants benefit from a high quality repair and maintenance service.

“We look forward to working in a productive partnership with Mears.”
