Smaller tax rise means you'll be 1p a week better off!

Don't spend it all at once, but the average Central Bedfordshire household is set to be 1p a week better off if a lower council tax rise than originally anticipated is rubber stamped.

Last week Central Beds Council’s Executive announced that it was recommending a smaller tax hike than initially planned.

Following public consultation which saw 45% agreeing and 51% disagreeing with a 3.99% rise, the council says it has listened to the reservations and is now looking at a 3.95% figure instead.

The higher rate would have equated to a weekly increase of £1 for an average Band D property when compared to 2015-16 bills.

The new rate will mean that weekly rise will now be 99p.

Central Beds Council’s precept, which is set to be ratified by full council on February 25, is the major part of the overall tax bill. Funding for parish/town councils and the emergency services also add to the overall final bill.
