Luton’s much loved Fireworks Night will return this November, two years after it was axed due to council budget cuts.
The November display at Popes Meadow was one of the town’s biggest dates in the calendar but was shelved following the last event in 2012.
Now, thanks to sponsoring from London Luton Airport Ltd, it will make a return on Saturday November 7.
It is also hoped that the two annual smaller community firework displays will still be held in the Marsh Farm and Farley areas.
Luton Borough councillor Andy Malcolm, acting chair of London Luton Airport Limited, said: “We really value the support we get from the people of Luton and are always looking for opportunities to say thank you.
“The Popes Meadow fireworks display has always been popular and that’s why we were happy to support the council who wanted to re-launch this event.”
“It’s going to be a great evening and will be fantastic to see communities come together once again to enjoy an excellent display and to celebrate our town.”
Cllr Hazel Simmons, leader of Luton Borough Council, added: “Due to ongoing cuts to our budget we were forced to make a very difficult decision two years ago to withdraw funding for the Luton Fireworks event.
“Since we made that decision residents have been very vocal about how much they missed the event and wanted it back.
“We would therefore like to thank LLAL for their very generous offer which means that a display can take place in 2015.
“There are still plenty of sponsorship opportunities for businesses who want to support a fantastic and high profile event.
“If you would like the opportunity to gain valuable media coverage and brand association with this key event in the Luton calendar please do get in touch.”
