Scheme gives a lift to car-sharing drive

A NEW scheme to encourage car-sharing in Central Beds and Luton has been launched.

People can now check out a special website linked to the UK’s biggest ‘liftshare’ database.

The plan is to match up drivers with passengers who need a lift.

That way, they can share journeys and cut travel costs.

Leading councillors and senior officers from Central Beds Council and Luton Borough Council used car-sharing to travel to the launch event, sponsored by Vauxhall.

They met up at the Central Beds offices in Dunstable on Thursday, September 1 to get the scheme on the road.

Passengers and drivers are teamed up through the database for all kinds of journeys.

Central Beds councillor Ken Matthews said: “With petrol prices hitting an all-time high, it is great to be launching a free scheme which will not only help residents to cut fuel costs, but reduce emissions and cut congestion.
