YOUNGSTERS at a Luton infant school raised £250 by collecting unwanted textiles as part of a special Waste Week.
Children at Crawley Green Infant School filled bags of unwanted clothes, shoes, bags, belts, hats, curtains, towels and bedding after the school’s eco-committee organised the project with ‘Phil’ The Bag, an official textile partner of eco-schools.
The ‘Phil’ The Bag scheme helps demonstrate to the children the significance of textile recycling and reusing on both a local and global scale as well as providing valuable clothing for people in developing countries.
The money raised will be donated to Coco’s Foundation which is committed to the continuous support of the Ubombo children’s orphanage in South Africa.
Chris Connors, the founder of the foundation, will be visiting the school to talk to the pupils and show them photos of the children in Africa buying shoes with the money Crawley Green Infants have donated.
