Forensic officers from the Beds, Herts and Cambs major crime unit are currently at a site by Sharnbrook viaduct, in connection with a head which was found in Cambs yesterday.

Police were alerted to the human remains, which still had flesh attached, at 3pm yesterday (May 16).

Officers now believe the head may have come from a construction site in Mill Road, and have since been conducting searches of the area. No human remains have been located in Sharnbrook at this time.

A police spokesman said: “We are not yet treating this as a murder inquiry, as we have further work to do to establish what the circumstances around the death were; it could be a murder, suicide, accident – we are keeping an open mind at the moment.”

Detective Inspector Jerry Waite, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit (MCU), added: “We are conducting enquiries both locally and across the county borders, and would urge anyone with information about the finding to contact us.

“At this stage we do not know if the head is male or female, however we have got officers carrying out searches at a site in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, as we believe this is where the remains may have come from.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the major crime unit on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
