She's a Luton role model

Dr Diahanne Rhiney – one-time model and daughter of former British boxing champion Henry Rhiney – is now an eminent PR, businesswoman and blogger.

She won the Natwest Everywoman Athena Award in 2009 and founded Strength With In Me (SWIM) to equip young girls with the tools to identify and avoid toxic relationships.

She explains: “Seven years ago, my partner tried to shoot me. The bullet jammed and that is the reason I am alive today.

“My research revealed some shocking truths about domestic violence in Britain. The implications for our teenage girls are staggering.

“But from my own experience, I realised all women already have the innate gifts to conquer and avoid domestic violence. It’s simply a question of unlocking them – something I aim to achieve through SWIM.”

Dr Rhiney was selected from more than 20,000 nominations. The awards will be announced at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral next month.
