Shoppers stop to sign up for race

RUNNERS of all sizes and ages took the opportunity to sign up for our fantastic On Your Marks Luton event when we visited The Mall on Friday.

The On Your Marks team were given a prime spot outside Marks & Spencer, and the day being the last Friday of the summer holidays meant there was plenty of passing trade as mums and dads took youngsters to pick up last minute back-to-school supplies.

Dunstable Gazette chief reporter Laura Kempsell joined triathlon group Boxfit to promote the October 16 event, and said shoppers were keen to find out all about the race.

“So many people were interested because the event is aid of such a great cause – the L&D’s neo-natal intensive care unit. We had lots of people who came over and told us that one of their children had been cared for in the NICU, or that they know someone whose baby had been looked after there. So many people’s lives have been touched by the staff there.

“They all said that the unit is a really great asset to our community here in Luton, Dunstable and Houghton Regis, and much further afield as well.”

On Your Marks will have a range of distances – 10km, 5km and a 2km fun run – meaning all ages can take part, and plenty of people signed up their whole family on Friday.

Laura added: “It’s going to be a really great community event, and we’re hoping to raise as much money as possible for the NICU.
