Sidings opened for longer carriages

MORNING and evening rush hours are on track to be easier from next month when First Capital Connect extends its service to include 12 carriage trains on the Bedford to Brighton line.

New railway sidings – named in honour of Bedford railwayman Rodney Jowett – have been opened to stable the trains that are almost a quarter of a kilometre long.

They come into operation on December 12 when three extra morning and evening trains will be providing 1,500 additional seats every day.

More 12 carriage trains will be introduced when a new fleet of trains is delivered in 2015.

Five shunters have been employed to operate the sidings.
