A skating rink and carousel will take centre stage at St George's Square, Luton, this Christmas thanks to Luton Business Improvement District (BID).

The organisation, which is made up of businesses in Luton, is funding the festive events and attractions for shoppers this winter.

The skating rink will return to St George’s Square on Friday, December 16, for three weeks.

It will be open from 12pm till 8pm and close at 4pm on Christmas Eve, but will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Skating sessions are £4 for 45 minutes.

Visitors can also enjoy a Christmas carousel from Saturday, December 17.

Musicians and artists will take to the stage to entertain shoppers from 12pm till 4pm on Saturday, December 10, and Saturday, December 17.

The BID has also organised carol singing in St George’s Square from 1pm till 4pm on Christmas Eve.

On Saturday, November 26, Luton will host its Christmas lights switch-on.

Chase and Marshall from children’s TV show Paw Patrol will be making personal appearances from 3pm to entertain the crowd before the official switch-on at 6pm.

The event is organised by Luton Borough Council and supported by Luton BID.

The annual lantern parade will be led by Park Town Children’s Centre.

This year will also see the return of BID’s free Golden Ticket festive prize draw. Eight lucky shoppers will win a share of £4,000 of vouchers.

The prize draw will take place on Monday, November 28, and Monday, December 12.

Winners will receive one £250 voucher for a national business and £250 of vouchers to spend with an independent businesses.

To enter the prize draw you need to fill in an entry form and post it in a Golden Ticket box.

Forms can be downloaded from www.lutontowencentre.org and the boxes can be found in The Mall, Central Library, The Galaxy, the Travel Centre and The Hat Factory.
