In the College’s annual competition, A level government and politics students are invited to write an original essay of up to 3,000 words exploring a topical issue relating to British or international politics.

Connor, whose family moved to Luton before he started primary school, said: “I found it really interesting how after saying no to independence, people in their masses went to the SNP in the general election.

“I wanted to analyse what aspect had caused this political mood shift.”

Connor is planning to read professional education with history and politics at the University of Stirling with an eye to carving out a political career, potentially in the Scottish parliament.

The former Stopsley High pupil won £50 cash and a copy of In Order to Live: A North Korean Girl’s Journey to Freedom by Yeonmi Park.
