Streetfield says farewell with special songs

A recent reunion of former staff revealed that since 1976 181 teachers and 135 non-teachers have served the needs of over 4000 children aged 9-13.

The re-organisation of schooling in Dunstable organised by the LA after the majority of lower and secondary schools decided to change their age ranges has resulted in the closure of the school.

However, the assembly celebrated the fact that the children have enjoyed an extraordinary curriculum including: Paleontology, Archaeology, Natural History, Ancient British History and Geography and trips to Stonehenge, Avebury, Oxford’s Ashmoleum Museum, The Tring Museum and Broadstairs beach.

The children each received a copy of the professionally recorded CD of the songs that they had performed and a special photographic album with a personalised photo DVD of their year at Streetfield.

They had each previously been awarded a trophy recognising a particular skill or progress that they had made this year to complement the £20 commemorative coin they had been issued with to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday.

Acting headteacher Des Tinch said: “As the doors of Streetfield close others will open so seize those moments, well done, good luck and good fortune. Farewell.”

After and emotional rendition of the school song: (Gone – but not forgotten) written especially for the occasion by Music specialist and class teacher Mrs. Byrne all joined together for a final toast led by Mr Tinch – ‘To the future’.
